DO NOT ASK ABOUT THAT WHICH WILL DISTRESS YOU

Questioner: Assalaamu ‘alaykum

Dr Sharof: Wa’alaykumu ssalaam

Questioner: My question is; if one’s parents depend on selling alcohol as a means of livelihood…and the money they derive from it is what they use to make food for the family. Can one eat such food? They also use this money to sponsor one’s education.

Dr Sharof: Ah! You shouldn’t have asked this question. Do you understand? Na’am!

The Congregation: Laughing mode activated!

Dr Sharof: This is because you added certain things; that is why you shouldn’t have asked it. Allaah says, “O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you…”. I hope you understand. That’s it.
