Questioner: Is it from the Sunnah that the one who slaughters an animal for ‘Eid should first eat the heart of the animal?
Dr Sharof: We do not know of such thing in the Sunnah. You should first eat something from the animal slaughtered for ‘Eid. If you are able to cook the thigh of the animal you can eat from it, even if it is the throat that you eat first (you can do as you like); there is nothing mentioned specifically regarding this. People who say it is obligatory (to eat the heart before the other parts of the animal) only tend to enforce rules upon themselves. So you can do whatever you are pleased with. That is it.
