Questioner: Can we ask a woman to stop bearing children because she has no physical strength to take care of a child?
Dr Sharof: She has no physical strength to take care of a child; this is incomprehensible. It is Allaah that takes care of a child, it is not left to mankind; we can only strive to provide their needs. However, if what was intended by the questioner is that a woman finds it difficult to give birth because of a number of cesarean sections, and it is said that her womb is weak, then it is permissible for her to stop bearing children. But as for not having the physical strength, she should employ a person who will take care of the child on her behalf. She can’t stop bearing children because she can’t take care of a child. Even if she can’t raise a child, we should employ a person who will help her raise the child.
