Questioner: Two villages are at war and there are Muslims in both villages, a Muslim from the fighters of one village points gun at a Muslim from the other village so as to kill him, if he (the one who is to be killed) protects himself in such way that there is no other escape route other than to kill the person who pointed gun at him, is he a sinner?
Dr Sharof: A person wants to kill you, and there is no other way of saving yourself other than to kill him; you have not sinned (against Allaah) neither have you sinned against him (if you kill him). However, if your question is, if such fitnah happens, a village is at war with another one just like the Jaahiliyyah war they engage in (in our vicinities), (for example), Offa fighting Erin Ile, and some Muslims are calling others to Jihaad, (what should you do)? If this happens and you are in one of the areas of the two villages, run away from the place immediately, that is how to achieve peacefulness.
But, if there is no method of running away, or you are afraid that you may be killed, stay at your place of residence and continue to pray that the fitnah does not reach you. That is it.
