Questioner: There are Imaams who ask the congregation to say AstagfiruLlaah (I seek forgiveness from Allaah) ten times and InnaLlaaha ghafuuru rroheem (Verily Allaah is forgiving and merciful) during the eleventh time. Is this in line with the Sunnah?
Dr Sharof: You all know the answer to this (question). There is no need responding to it. You know it is not permissible because it is not from the Sunnah. A person asks you to say AstagfiruLlaah ten times and InnaLlaaha ghafuuru rroheem during the eleventh time or AlhamduliLlaah (All perfect praise be to Allaah alone) ten times and robbil aalameen (the Lord of the Worlds) during the eleventh time; all these are innovations (in the religion). This is not from the Sunnah. That is it.
